How long have you been playing water polo?

I stared playing water polo when I was 12. I played for club and high school. I switched over to coaching the sport after my season was over junior year of high school. I went as far as coaching at an Olympic development camp at the Colorado Springs Olympic training center. I started playing again the beginning of my sophomore year at UW.

What is your favorite thing about being a UW athlete?

My favorite thing about being a UW athlete is that I can make friends with people that I would not have crossed paths with otherwise. It is amazing sharing a connection with people through a sport you are all so passionate about. Also, playing a sport is a big stress reliever. When I step onto the pool deck, I stop worrying about the test I have the next day or an essay that is due, etc. The sport helps keep me sane among all the chaos at UW. Furthermore, being an athlete helps me balance all my obligations better. It seems weird, but being an athlete just pushes me to be a better person all around. I’m not just doing things for myself anymore, I’m doing it for my teammates as well. I push myself to do better in school because if I don’t, then I would not be able to play which would let my team down.

How long have you been playing volleyball?

I’ve been playing beach volleyball since I was 14. I started playing indoor for a club team when I was 13, then found beach tournaments to play in the area during summers since Seattle does not have the best weather for beach.

What is your favorite thing about being a UW athlete?

My favorite thing about being a UW athlete has been the community and opportunities it has opened me up to. Most of the team plays indoor for UW also, which has been a top NCAA team for a long time, so it’s super cool and an awesome challenge to play with these girls who are so talented. The girls have also been very welcoming since I joined as a junior and have made the transition a great experience for me.

It’s amazing to see how Alpha Xi’s are realizing their potential in the UW community. What’s next? The future is up to you!
